Neighbourhood Profile
Census Tract- 9330185.22
Total population- 3,686
Neighborhood description- 7 minutes' walk from Kwantlen Polytechnic University, this is where I live.
1. Population of this neighborhood decreasing as a whole.
According to census tract, population decreased with (-2.3%). However, according to Vancouver CMA population seems to increase with 7.3%.
This surprised me as this neighborhood is so close to university. And I always thought this neighborhood seems to be crowdy compared to others. So, this was a very surprising finding that population seems to decrease with time.
2. Most of the area is covered by immigrants in this neighborhood.
In this neighborhood, nearly half (49.2%) population is immigrant population as compared to Vancouver CMA immigrants' population (41.2%).
This hasn't surprised me because this neighborhood is mostly covered with immigrant population. Especially, Punjabi population. So, this was not surprising.
3. Public Transit seems to be very accessible in this neighborhood as compared to region as a whole.
According to Vancouver CMA, only 14.9% people consider public transport as their main mode of commuting but in this neighborhood 20.2% population relies on public modes, i.e. buses or Skytrain.
This was an interesting finding to know about people's preference in commuting. Maybe accessibility of public transport is the main reason.

Hi Smile, I really liked your location near the university, because even in bad weather you can come to class on time, also no need to worry about traffic just walk and come to class. moreover, even I live close to the university which makes it easily accessible to a library, fitness center, and Kwantlen Pizza. overall, your details about your neighborhood are great but it could have more better if you had written about the infrastructure and facilities.
ReplyDeleteHello smile, finding out the precise number of immigrants living in your neighbourhood was interesting. You actually live close to KPU, Scott Road, and Newton, therefore that's the main reason why there are more immigrants in your neighbourhood. In addition, I appreciate you for your time and work.
ReplyDeleteIt is surprising for me as well that there is population decline in your neigbourhood although it is so close to the university. I agree that the accessibility of the public transport is definitely one of the reasons why it is more common within neighbourhood. You usually don't need to wait for so long at the stop to get on a bus and ride home. One thing that could be improved is maybe providing more thoughts on why this statistics exist.
ReplyDeletethe surprising thing in smile's blog id that the population is declining because just like her i also thought that it is so crowded an also that it must be a growing population. Another thing is smile and I may share the same neighborhood because I also live near to university so I know that there is more of Punjabi population here.
ReplyDeleteHey Smile! As you said in first point, I also had the same idea about the population near KPU. I thought it’s way more crowded as the University is nearby and it’s easy for students like us to get there sooner but it’s the opposite. Surprised to know that population is decreasing in your area but gradually growing in Vancouver.
